How to Check If Your Ceramic Coating Is Still Working (or Clogged)

One of the easiest ways to check the health of your ceramic coating is exactly what I did in the video — a simple pre-soak rinse at a self-serve car wash.
When you spray water or soap onto a coated surface, the reaction tells you a lot:
👌 Healthy Coating:
You’ll see tight, round beads.
Water and soap will slide right off the surface.
No scrubbing needed — just a quick rinse and dry.
🧽 Clogged or Weak Coating:
Water starts to stick or sheet slowly instead of beading.
The surface may feel rough or grabby after drying.
That’s a sign contaminants are sitting on top of the coating.
👉 A decon wash or topper can often bring that hydrophobic effect back. If the coating’s too far gone, it may be time for a refresh.
